SMASH Productions presents A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to The Forum, Stephen Sondheim’s first major musical on April 2-4, 2024. Broadway's greatest farce is light, fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest musicals ever written. It won six Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Actor (Zero Mostel), Best Supporting Actor (David Burns ) Best Book and Best Author.

It is a joyous, musical romp through Rome with desperate lovers, scheming neighbors and secrets behind every toga —- with a plot that stands the rest of time. It has “something for everyone, a comedy tonight. 

The show takes comedy back to its roots, combining situations from time-tested, 2000-year-old comedies of Roman playwright, Plautus, with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville with satirical comments on social class that may resonate today.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forumn is a nonstop laughfest in which Pseudolus, a crafty slave, struggles to win the hand of a beautiful, but slow-witted, courtesan named Philia for his young master, Hero, in exchange for his freedom. The plot twists and turns with cases of mistaken identity, slamming doors, fabulous music with a showgirl or two.

The Core Production Team has worked together on several successful SMASH Productions including Addams Family and Sound of Music. They include Director Bob Stehman, Music Director Mary Ann Rockenbach, Choreographer Barbara Byers and Producer Susan Feinberg.
